High velocity water maser features in W3/OH/

Journal Article · · Astrophys. Lett.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5099339
High and medium velocity water maser features have been detected in the compact H II region W3(OH). Features from -17 to -93 km/s were observed. The large velocity range is similar to that in other H II regions with water masers. The 'runaway compact object' hypothesis for W3(OH) is considered and found to be incompatible with these observations. These new features appear to be transient, which suggests that systematic monitoring programs of high velocity water maser features are necessary for better understanding of the phenomenon.
