Although renewable resources - hydroelectric, biomass, municipal solid waste, wind, solar, and geothermal - provide almost 7.5 percent of the nation's marketed energy consumption, they supply nearly 12 percent of the electricity. According to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), almost 10 of this electrical 12 percent comes from hydropower. This article describes the advantages and disadvantages to developing power from hydro , biomass and municipal solid waste, solar energy, solar thermal energy, photovoltaics, wind power, and geothermal energy. 4 figs.
