Multifunctional friction-modifying additives and compositions thereof

This patent describes a composition comprising a major proportion of an oil of lubricating viscosity or grease prepared therefrom and a minor friction reducing or antiwear proportion of a boronated imidazoline derived internal acid phosphate. The phosphate is prepared by reacting a hydrocarbyl imidazoline in a generalized reaction with phosphorus pentoxide, followed by reaction with a boronating agent.
