Turbulent acceleration of auroral plasma by electrostatic waves

The quasilinear equations for the particle distribution function in the plasma are used in a numerical study of the role played by the electrostatic loss-cone instability in the diffusive precipitation and acceleration of the auroral plasma. The loss-cone instability is found to cause moderate particle precipitation and to reduce their anisotropy, but significant acceleration of electrons occurs.
