Spent shale proves effective absorbent for sulfur emissions

Journal Article · · Pace Synth. Fuels Rep.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5095516
The Absorption on Spent Shale Process, ASSP, burns the residual carbon on retorted shale to recover its energy value, and then uses the resulting calcined carbonate material to absorb the sulfur gases produced during the retorting of oil shales. Three retort types were selected for study purposes. Cost estimates of the process and results from pilot scale tests are discussed.
