Process for the removal of acid forming gases from exhaust gases and production of phosphoric acid

This patent describes a method of treating exhaust gases containing acid forming pollutants including CO and obtaining a phosphoric acid product which comprises the steps of contacting the exhaust gas with an aqueous emulsion or suspension of yellow phosphorus, oxidizing the phosphorus while in contact with the exhaust gases so as to generate phosphoric acid and oxidize the NO to NO{sub 2}, removing the NO{sub 2} and recovering the phosphoric acid.
