The lifetimes of the D{sup 0}, D{sup +}, and D{sub s}{sup +} mesons were measured using high resolution silicon microstrip detectors in an experiment at FNAL. The experiment was performed in a Tagged Photon beam incident on beryllium at an average center of mass energy of 15 GeV. A total of 100 million events was recorded. The silicon microstrip detectors were used to suppress the combinatorial background by two orders of magnitude and to extract a large clean charm sample. From a full reconstruction of 32 million events 969 D{sup +}'s decaying to K{sup {minus}}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup +}, and 1360 D{sup 0}'s into K{sup {minus}}{pi}{sup +} and K{sup {minus}}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}}{pi}{sup +} were obtained. An analysis of 45 million events produced 99 D{sub s}{sup +}'s into the {phi}{sup 0}{pi}{sup +} and K*{sup 0}K{sup +} channels. A maximum likelihood fit to the proper time distributions gave 0.435 {plus minus} 0.015 {plus minus} 0.010, 1.06 {plus minus} 0.05 {plus minus} 0.03, and 0.48{sub {minus}0.05}{sup +0.06} {plus minus} 0.02 picoseconds for the D{sup 0}, D{sup +}, and D{sub s}{sup +} lifetimes, respectively. Thus, the lifetimes of the D{sup 0} and the D{sub s}{sup +} were measured to be equal within error, and the lifetime of the D{sup +} was confirmed to be significantly different.
