Effect of impinging air jet diameter on local and average heat transfer
- Univ. of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM (United States)
The effect of jet diameter on the radial distributions of both the local and average Nusselt numbers was investigated experimentally using four circular vertical air jets (3.2, 6.3, 9.5, and 12.7 mm in diameter) impinging on a uniformly heated surface. Jet spacing was varied from 3.2 to 76.2 mm and Reynolds number from 2.5 {times} 10{sup 4} to 6.0 {times} 10{sup 5}. The present data was consistent with that of other investigators. The local and average Nusselt number values in this work were compiled with those of other investigators and correlated as functions of Reynolds number and dimensionless jet spacing, jet diameter, and radial distance from the stagnation point. The present correlations of the local and average Nusselt numbers explicitly identified the contributions of jet diameter and jet spacing, thus, should be useful for design and parameter selection in many industrial applications.
