[ital M]1 decay of the 2 [sup 3][ital S][sub 1] state in heliumlike krypton

We report a measurement of the lifetime of the 2 [sup 3][ital S][sub 1] state in two-electron krypton. The lifetime is found to be 171.0[plus minus]2.2 ps, which is in reasonable agreement with current theoretical calculations. This measurement provides a test of the order ([ital Z][alpha])[sup 2] relativistic corrections to this lifetime.
