Whisker reinforced aluminum alloy composites are attractive as structural materials because of their high specific modulus, specific strength, wear resistance and high temperature performance. In the present work, interfacial reaction of (Al{sub 18}B{sub 4}O{sub 33})w/Al composites is studied by means of SEM and TEM observations. Attention is focused on the microstructures of aluminum borate whisker, and distribution and morphology of the interfacial reaction product, which are considered as the key factors of the interfacial reaction influencing the strength and reliability of the composites.
