Title: Influence of anomalously low fast neutron doses on the surface impedance of polycrystalline lead

It is shown that anomalously low doses of fast neutrons may change the effective dc conductivity in the surface layer of polycrystalline lead by a factor of between 6 and 50, and this is true also of a single crystal of lead. This behavior is clearly noticeable for a neutron dose of 4 x 10/sup 7/ cm/sup -2/. The dose is an order of magnitude greater than for a single-crystal sample. This phenomenon is explained by the formation of surface microroughness due to neutron irradiation.
