Growth and yield of close-spaced, young hybrid poplars

Journal Article · · For. Sci.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5087403
Rapid growth and high yield suggest that Populus hybrids are good trees to be used in a short-rotation wood fiber production system. Of the three clones tested on an Edom silt loam soil, clone Ne-388 appeared to be best for rotations of at least 4 years. At densities ranging from 0.09 to 0.46 m/sup 2/ per tree, 4-year-old trees of clone NE-388 were taller, larger in diameter, and accumulated more fiber than either clone NE-49 or NE-252 trees. 3 figures, 2 tables.
