Regional assessment of gas-fired cogeneration-energy-systems economics. Final report, January 1984-May 1986

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5085870
To make an evaluation of the economics of cogeneration in buildings, it is necessary to determine hourly energy savings for each particular building type and its climatic data. Otherwise, the sharply changing thermal and electric loads on an hourly and seasonal basis cannot be properly determined, and the economics cannot be meaningfully estimated. Further, the wide variations in electric power and natural gas rates markedly affect the economics for a given building type and climatic data. Given the above, cogeneration configurations must be established that match the electric power and waste heat outputs of the cogeneration technology with the building system's electric and thermal demands. The report shows selected economic results of different building cogeneration applications by region, and presents conclusions and recommendations regarding cogeneration parameters that can optimize the economics.
