System and method for efficiently generating power in a solid fuel gas turbine

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5084790
This patent describes a method for generating electrical power utilizing a compressor, spray evaporator, turbine, pressurized fluidized bed combustor (hereinafter PFBC), regenerator, dynamo-electric machine, and solid fuel. It comprises: compressing and heating air in the compressor; cooling the hot compressed air in the spray evaporator, thereby producing cooled compressed air of increased mass flow; heating the cooled compressed air in the regenerator, thereby producing heated compressed air; fluidizing and burning the solid fuel in the PFBC using the heated compressed air to fluidize the solid fuel and provide oxygen for the burning, thereby producing hot compressed combustion gas; expanding the hot compressed combustion gas in the turbine, thereby producing rotating shaft power and expanded combustion gas; cooling the expanded combustion gas in the regenerator; and converting the rotating shaft power to electrical power in a dynamo-electric machine.
