Toward a renewable-energy future: the urban potential - Austin, Texas

The kind and quality of Austin, Texas' energy sources and its pattern of energy consumption are analyzed, followed by an analysis of conservation and solar energy in residential and commercial structures, justifications for instituting a solar energy code, and the prospect of small business opportunities in solar energy. The possibility of converting municipal solid wastes to energy and the role of the city's electric department in promoting the use of renewable resources are examined. The outline is provided of an information/skills transfer program that can be used to increase public awareness, receptivity, and confidence in renewable energy alternatives. (LEW)
