Observation of a discrete-line superdeformed band up to 60h-bar in /sup 152/Dy

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. Lett.; (United States)
A rotational band of nineteen transitions with a moment of inertia scrI/sub band//sup (2)/ of 84h-dash-bar/sup 2/ MeV/sup -1/ has been observed in /sup 152/Dy. The band feeds into the oblate yrast states between 19/sup -/ and 25/sup -/ and it is proposed that the lowest member of the band has a spin of 22/sup +/ and thus the band extends up to 60h-bar. It is identified as the yrast superdeformed band and its intensity accounts for the whole of the ridge structure seen previously in continuum E/sub ..gamma../-E/sub ..gamma../ correlations.
