Generation and distribution of whistler-mode noise in the earth's plasmasphere

The mechanisms responsible for the generation and distribution of natural whistler-mode noise in the plasmasphere have been investigated. Ray trace studies incorporating calculations of the ray path integrated cyclotron growth and Landau damping from realistic and directly measured electron distributions confirm that energetic anisotropic electrons generate plasmaspheric hiss.
