Stimulation of low permeability gas wells in the Rocky Mountain area

Conference · · Soc. Pet. Eng. AIME, Pap.; (United States)

Many low pressure, low permeability gas producing formations are presently being completed, which in the past were plugged or competely neglected. The majority of these gas wells has to be stimulated to be economical. Because of the low formation pressures and/or low permeability, great care must be taken to choose the proper fluid when performing a stimulation treatment. Fluid imbibition, and formation composition are some of the more critical factors that have to be considered. This study discusses the approach taken to evaluate the different low permeability gas formations as to the type of frac or acid stimulation fluid to use, the new fluids developed specifically for this type of problem, and field stimulation results for the different fluids used.
