A blowout preventer is described having a pair of preventer rams adapted to seal around a wire line in a well pipe, and having wire-line guide means with each preventer ram which provides positive centering of the wire line as the rams move toward each other. Also, the guide means is strengthened as compared to the prior art and it eliminates inadvertent shearing of the wire line by the guide means as the rams move toward each other to the sealing position.
