Near-surface test facility construction report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5065573
The US Department of Energy (DOE), through the Basalt Waste Isolation Project (BWIP) with Rockwell Hanford Operations (Rockwell), is investigating the feasibility of terminal storage of radioactive waste in deep caverns constructed in Columbia River basalt. The initial review was conducted at Hanford from 1968 through 1972. An extensive redesign was performed. Rooms were arranged and changed. This required a complete rework of the cost estimate by the consultant. This final estimate was prepared from a compilation of the time and materials required to perform the work functions specified. 31 refs.
