A new type of rotary rock drill is described. Originally developed for the production of holes for the installation of longer-than-seam-height roof bolts, the flexible drill is a useful tool for many applications. The paper discusses applications and experience with the flexible drill in coal and other mining, and in civil engineering. Manual, remote control and automatic roof bolter modules are also discussed.
