Modeling density contributions in preceramic polymer/ceramic powder systems

A model is presented that examines the mixing of ceramic powders with preceramic polymer binders that are converted to ceramic material on pyrolysis. Such polymer/powder systems, which have applications in the compaction of both SiC and Si3N4 powders, can be effective in increasing the green density of die-pressed bodies. This model examines the relative importance of various physical parameters of the components of the system in maximizing the green density of the resulting pyrolyzed body. 5 references.
