Exhaust gas recirculation for control of updraft gasifier grate temperature

Conference · · ASAE Tech. Pap.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5062528
The oxidization zone temperature in an updraft gasifier is usually sufficiently high to cause slagging of the ash. Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) was tested and shown to effectively reduce grate temperatures for updraft gasification of woodchips and to have no significant effect on system efficiency. A simple damper controlled EGR duct design was found to provide uniform grate temperature over a wide range of gasification rates in the fan motivated system.
