Title: King Saud University stand alone solar house

Conference · · Proc., Intersoc. Energy Convers. Eng. Conf.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5061453

Design features and project objectives of the King Saud University stand alone solar house are discussed in this paper. This experimental building utilizes a solar water heating system which consists of four flat plate solar collectors. The air conditioning system consists of two thermoelectric units with air heat exchangers on both cold and hot sides. An evaporative cooler is also used with 1200 cfm air flow along with a thermoelectric refrigerator. The objectives of this project are to study the possibility of using solar energy to provide the energy demand of local office buildings, to assess possible mass market applications of solar systems, to correctly estimate the relative performance of the various sub-systems and to improve the simplified computer model using a modified TRANSYS simulation program.
