Study of thermochemical treatment of waste silica gel with sodium hydroxide solution in a wide range of influencing factors (temperature, treatment time, initial reactant ratio) showed that the highest degree of transfer of silica into solution, 93-95%, is attained at the ratio SiO/sub 2/:Na/sub 2/O = 1:1.12-1.26. The contents of aluminum- and fluoride-containing impurities in the sodium metasilicate solution were found at the ratio SiO/sub 2/:Na/sub 2/O = 1:2.06. The good complexing properties of the resultant sodium aluminosilicate, its particle-size composition, and its behavior during heat treatment suggest that it is likely to be an effective component of detergent materials.
