Pulsed TEA CO sub 2 laser with a simple selective reflector

A new method for laser mode selection that consists of making one of the cavity mirrors with a displaced part of the reflecting surface, is validated, implemented and studied. This selective mirror is used in a TEA CO{sub 2} laser for pumping submillimeter generators. This allowed us to raise the conversion efficiency from IR to submillimeter signal by more than a factor of 2 at the wavelength of 385 {mu}m and achieve lasing at a number of wavelengths of the submillimeter band, which are indistinguishable in the output signal without the selective mirror.
