This patent describes a method for storing depths during well logging operations. It comprises providing electrical pulses corresponding to a well logging apparatus' vertical position; converting the electrical pulses into digital signals of a predetermined format; storing the digital signals and an azimuthal synchronizing pulse corresponding to a predetermined angular position of a transducer of the well logging apparatus on a recording device after a predetermined time-delay following occurrence of the azimuthal synchronizing pulse.
