Fuel distributing and injector pump with electronic control

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5053321
This patent describes a pump for metering and injecting pulses of fuel from a source of pressure fuel into separate combustion chambers of an internal combustion engine. It comprises a fuel distributing rotor operatively mounted for rotation in the housing, a fuel pumping chamber in the rotor, power means for rotatably driving the rotor, fuel entrance port and associate passage means in the rotor for transmitting fuel from the pressure source to the pumping chamber, pumping means associated with the rotor for pumping fuel supplied thereto to the combustion chambers, fuel passage and associated terminal port means in the housing for supplying fuel from the source to the rotor, the entrance port means and the terminal port means interfacing with one another through a predetermined turning arc of the rotor with respect to the housing for the hydraulic connection of the passage means in the housing to the passage means in the rotor, and electronically controlled valve means movable to an open position for feeding fuel to the passage means in the housing prior to registry of the port means of the rotor and the housing so that the port means have pressurized fuel when registering with one another and for subsequently moving to a closed position prior to the movement of the openings from registry with one another to thereby terminate and control the amount of fuel supplied to each of the combustion chambers.
