The University of Minnesota is presently involved in construction of a Grid-Connected Integrated Community Energy System (ICES) scheduled for operation in 1982. The ICES Program involves retrofitting a retired utility condensing electric generating plant back to coal from gas and oil, installation of noncondensing automatic extraction cogeneration, modification, and system improvements to coal deliveries and handling.
