Title: Developing and upgrading of solar system thermal energy storage simulation models. Technical progress report, September 1, 1977-February 28, 1978

Technical Report ·
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2172/5050548· OSTI ID:5050548

The program objectives are: 1) collect, standardize, and link existing TES models from the literature and other STO contractors; 2) correlate TES models with available TES component test data; 3) develop streamlined versions of validated TES component models; and 4) provide DOE industry with a competent solar TES simulation tool. Progress during the reporting period, which is reported in detail, was concerned primarily with the fist detailed objective: 1) criteria for thermal energy storage models were derived; 2) a state-of-the-art review of thermal energy storage techniques was conducted; 3) component models for rock bed and liquid tank storage are recommended; and 4) simulation techniques: TRNSYS, SOLSYS, and SIMWEST were critiqued. TRNSYS was installed and a test problem successfully run.
