Title: Comparison of flat plate and line concentrator/tracking PV systems at sites in Hawaii

Conference · · Proc. Annu. Meet. - Am. Sect. Int. Sol. Energy Soc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5048094

Three photovoltaic installations on lived-in residences on two Hawaiian islands are evaluated. HNEI has participated in the operation of a tracking concentrator PV-thermal system on another island. The data from these systems provides an interesting comparison of the utility of the two types of systems in a sub-tropical environment. Results of the comparison show the effect of variable cloudiness versus direct normal insolation. Preferred strategies for producing the best energy are presented, including both electrical and thermal energy from systems in sub-optimum locations.
