This review article discusses the biochemistry, variability in structure and clinical significance of understanding the mechanism of Bence Jones proteins. Continued research on these proteins provides will provide new insights into the pathogenesis of human light-chain-associated renal and systemic diseases. Research studies have contributed to an understanding of the molecular basis of protein structure and interaction, to protein engineering, and to design of protein-specific synthetic drugs.
