The future of European arms control

Book ·
OSTI ID:5046918
Arms control negotiations have overcome a period of stagnation, moving into a vital and dynamic phase. Recent successes have grown out of debate and controversy not just between East and West, but also within the Western alliance. Combining the expertise of U.S. and West German scholars and practitioners, this book examines the critical elements of the ongoing debate and assesses the impact of different approaches to arms control within NATO, particularly the dichotomy between the United States and the Federal Republic of Germany. Woven throughout are the common themes of the political conditions of arms control, the grand strategies of the countries involved, and the need for political control of weapons technologies.
