The NO{sub x} and CO emissions of the three Benzon pulverized boilers with turbulent wall burners under the ceiling of a combustion chamber were exceeded because of an unstable combustion process. Through diagnostic measurements during a combustion chamber operation and by isothermal measurement in front of the opening of the burner the cause was found out to be the wrong type and the configuration of burners. A significant improvement was reached by changing the turbulence parameter of burners, their mutual position and the tercial air introduction into combustion chamber. It was proved by isothermal measurement in the burner`s area and by diagnostic measurement in a combustion chamber with the help of cooled probes for temperature measurement and taking samples for combustion products analysis. At the same time the influence of fuel feeding on flame pulsation was verified as well as pulsation removal by changing the frequency of the chamber feeder of coal powder. More than 30 measurements for different combustion and output regimes are giving results which determine the optimal burning regime with minimal NO{sub x} and CO levels and the remains of unburnt matter in fly ash for the highest reachable efficiency of the boiler.
