National coal resource assessment: Pennsylvanian age coals of the Illinois basin

The US Geological Survey, in cooperation with the state geological surveys of Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky, has initiated a project to update the assessments of the quantity and quality of the Pennsylvanian age coals in the Illinois basin. This project will review previous assessments, facilitate the update and merging of state digital data bases, and produce summaries of the tonnages and quality for the major Pennsylvanian coal beds mined in the Illinois Basin. 25 refs.
