Update: ASHRAE TC 4. 7 simplified energy analysis procedure
Effective building energy conservation requires the availability of energy estimating procedures that can quantitatively evaluate the effects of various design and operational parameters. Additionally, various existing and proposed standards and codes, published by ASHRAE or by federal and state governments, require the use of building energy analysis for compliance. Most of the existing procedures are either too simplistic to provide the desired level of accuracy and comprehensiveness, or they are too complex to gain widespread usage. ASHRAE Technical Committee (TC) 4.7 for Energy Calculations is in the process of developing a comprehensive modified bin method for estimating building energy usage. This proposed procedure can lend itself for manual calculations, and it can be easily programmed into microcomputers. This article describes the proposed procedure, updates and summarizes the results of studies comparing the results obtained and those obtained from complex procedures requiring main frame computers.
