The effect on the ratio of the gap to the critical temperature 2..delta../sub 0//k /SUB B/ T /SUB c/ of various possible shapes for the electron-phonon spectral density is studied. The calculations are carried out keeping T /SUB c/ and T /SUB c/ / /SUP W/ /SUB ln/ fixed, where /SUP W/ /SUB ln/ is a characteristic phonon energy. When only realistic shapes known to occur in nature are considered, the ratio 2..delta../sub 0//k /SUB B/ T /SUB C/ shows little variation with shape. On the other hand, when the analysis is extended to a two-delta-function model, much larger variations are possible, particularly when fairly extreme nonphysical values are used for the positions in frequency of the delta functions.
