Reducing energy costs in vapor degreasing systems

Journal Article · · Plant Eng.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5039857
Vapor degreasing is commonly used to remove wax, oil, and grease from metal parts, subassemblies, and completed products prior to plating, painting, or finishing. For example, metal degreasing systems are used to deflux printed circuit boards; to degrease computer parts, electrical relays, bearings, and medical instruments; and to clean elastomers, plastic, and annealed magnet wire coatings. Process heating and cooling operations often consume and waste large amounts of energy. The addition of an industrial heat pump to a conventional vapor degreasing system can cut energy costs almost in half.
