Effective action of (2+1)-dimensional QED: The effect of a finite fermion density
- Department of Physics Education, Seoul National University, Seoul 151-742 (Korea)
The effective action of (2+1)-dimensional QED with a finite fermion density is calculated in a uniform electromagnetic field. It is shown that the integer quantum Hall effect and de Haas{endash}van Alphen-like phenomenon in condensed matter physics are derived directly from the effective action. {copyright} {ital 1997} {ital The American Physical Society}
