In order to elucidate the mechanism of the dehydrogenation process using as an example o-carborane, the authors study the dependence of the ratio of the sum of the intensities of dehydrogenated ions vs the intensities of the molecular ions (pounds(M-nH)+/M+), characterizing the degree of dehydrogenation, on the energy of the ionizing electrons at the temperature of the ionization chamber and the temperature of the insertion system. Under electron impact conditions, dehydrogenation is the main fragmentation process of isomeric carboranes. The progress of this process enhances with the increase of the energy of ionizing electrons and the temperature of the ionization chamber.
