Electrochromic effect in amorphous WO /SUB 3-x/ films

It has been shown that the formation of color centers with different optical characteristics corresponds to the individual waves on the current-voltage curves for the cathodic reduction of electrochromic amorphous WO /SUB 3-x/ . This is attributed to the different numbers of terminal oxygen atoms in the ligand environment of the tungsten centers being reduced. An equivalent electrical circuit for a WO /SUB 3-x/ electrode with a current-conducting SnO/sub 2/ layer, which permits the qualitative description of the course of the dependence of the coloration current on the potential and evaluation of the resistance of the electrochemical step, the exchange current for protons on the interface with the electrolyte, and the density of states in the conduction band of semiconducting WO /SUB 3-x/ , has been proposed.
