Using mie-scattering for measuring size changes of individual combusting particles

In this work the authors develop and use a particle sizer designed to measure relatively large individual particles (50 to 400 ..mu..m) over a large sample volume cross-section (3 mm x 3 mm). The authors document the accuracy of the sizer using monodisperse droplets of water and n-decane. They also examine the effect of combustion on particle sizer performance by comparing the results obtained for burning n-decane droplets to results of non-burning tests.
