Efficient phase conjugate laser

This patent describes a pulsed laser apparatus utilizing a master oscillator, power amplifier configuration wherein a master oscillator provides a source of laser radiation pulses that are injected into an amplifying stage where the pulses are amplified to provide higher power laser output radiation. The laser apparatus comprises: a master oscillator radiation source for providing low energy, high quality, output radiation pulses; an amplifier stage; isolation means disposed along the optical path for selectively coupling a predetermined portion of the energy of the radiation pulses which traverse the optical path between the master oscillator radiation source and the amplifier stage; phase conjugation means disposed along the optical path on the opposite side of the amplifier stage from the coupling means, for reflecting phase conjugate laser radiation pulses in response to amplified laser radiation pulses incident thereon; and delay means disposed between the amplifier stage and the phase conjugation means for substantially delaying the reflected phase conjugated laser radiation pulses reflected by the phase conjugation means until radiation pulses traversing the laser gain medium have exited the laser gain medium.
