Fluorescent converter pumped cavity for laser system
A multi-lamp laser system is described comprising: (a) an active slab laser element having major planar surfaces; (b) lamps positioned symmetrically with respect to the laser element and on opposite ends of the major surfaces; (c) solid fluorescent converter elements having interior and outer surfaces, (d) passage means communicating between each of the lamp cavities and the interior cavity retaining the laser to provide a direct illumination path to the laser from each of the lamps, and (e) metallic reflecting means on the outer surfaces of the converter elements to reflect light from the lamp transmitted through the converter elements as well as spectrally shifted light from the fluorescent conversion taking place in the converter elements onto the major surfaces of the slab laser element.
