The interaction between the magnetic fields induced by intense electron pulses in storage rings and polarized hydrogen and deuterium atoms stored internally by a cell has been investigated. A brief review of the principle depolarization mechanisms is given, along with a study of a single depolarizing resonance. The results of full simulations for longitudinally polarized targets in the HERA ring are presented.
