An outdoor woodburning furnace is described comprising: an enclosure having an insulated top wall, insulated front wall, insulated rear wall, and insulated side walls, a water jacket disposed in the enclosure generally co-extensive with the insulated front wall, insulated rear wall, and insulated side walls, a grate in the enclosure, ash receiving means below the grate, a flue connected to the enclosure, a fuel loading door in the enclosure for feeding fuel to the firebox, and an L-shaped hollow baffle adapted to contain heated liquid medium. The L-shaped hollow baffle supported in the enclosure, having a horizontal leg spaced from the front wall, and the L-shaped hollow baffle having a vertical leg spaced from the rear wall and extending upwardly. The hollow baffle being connected to the water jacket to accommodate circulation of the liquid medium, and the hollow baffle and the rear wall providing an air flow space between the rear wall.
