Review and annotated bibliography of benthic studies in coastal and estuarine areas of Florida with a selected compilation of worldwide benthic methodological references and southeastern United States benthic taxonomic references

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5017901

Benthic ecology, the study of bottom dwelling flora and fauna, flourished in the state of Florida in the last two decades. The abundance and diversity of benthic habitats in and around the state and the pressures of water use and waterfront development have both contributed to the advancement of research in this field. Almost 75% of the research on benthic habitats and organisms conducted in the last decade was done to either evaluate or mitigate an environmental problem. A reasonable compilation of the majority of benthic studies conducted in Florida's waters was not available to date; this report is an attempt to do so, at least for the coastal and estuarine areas of Florida.
