Inelastic scattering of kaons on /sup 12/C
The cross sections for the reactions /sup 12/C(K/sup + -/,K/sup + -/')/sup 12/C* (J/sup ..pi../ = 2/sup +/, E/sub x/ = 4.44 MeV; J/sup ..pi../ = 0/sup +/, E/sub x/ = 7.65 MeV, and J/sup ..pi../ = 3/sup -/, E/sub x/ = 9.64 MeV) at incident momentum p/sub lab/ = 800 MeV/c are calculated in the distorted-wave impulse approximation. Multiple scattering effects are taken into account by means of the K/sup + -/-nucleus elastic scattering amplitudes. The results are compared with recent data for the reactions leading to the 2/sup +/ and 3/sup -/ states. The difference between the angular patterns of the cross sections for the K/sup -/ and K/sup +/ scattering is mainly due to the fact that the K/sup -/N scattering amplitude depends strongly on the momentum transfer compared with the K/sup +/N amplitude.
