Open platform group-centric & network-centric information processing systems
- Polytechnic Univ., Hawthorne, NY (United States)
The concept of a framework integrating network-centric and group-centric information processing on an open platform is presented. Recent developments in computer and network technologies are giving rise to increasingly network-centric working environments, providing a new convenience in uniting previously separate information handling activities. These new environments induce group collaboration in information handling duties and can lead to the development of full-cycle information processing. Such full-cycle information processing systems can now be implemented on an open-platform due to the explosive growth of the Internet and the arrival of the World Wide Web. The Internet Real-Time Conference (IRC) and Cyberspace Assisted Responsive Education (I-CARE), two important new information applications, were created out of a desire to build open-platform solutions that would exemplify the power and effectiveness of this approach.
