Molten carbonate fuel cell improvements

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5015883
A molten carbonate fuel cell integrated with a coal gasification power plant is one of the most promising coal-using technologies because of its high efficiency, acceptable cost, and environmental acceptability. However, for the molten carbonate system to achieve these goals, continued developmental work is required which must take account of the operating conditions of the application. Progress made in improving cell performance and life, evaluating the effect of contaminants on cell performance, design of multi-cell stack, and identifying alternate electrolyte compositions is discussed. The status of research on other major areas is also discussed.
